Framed size 18" x 12", with non reflective glass. The UK's smallest bird of prey. The males have this gorgeous slate blue back, the females are much more brown in colour. Although small, they are a fierce hunter and use surprise attacks to bring down small songbirds and shore birds. SOLD at Brett Gallery, Monks Eleigh.
The painting is on Cold Press, extra heavy, off white Crescent art board and I aim to produce the finest detail in both the subject and its natural setting. The shade of the Daler mountboard is carefully selected depending on the painting, as is the toning of the frame itself.
The British breeding population of Merlin is estimated at around 1100 pairs, mostly on Scottish moorland, northern England and Wales. Merlins are occurring in Gloucestershire more frequently these days. There were 70 sightings in the county in 2008. Only occasionally are two birds seen together. Read more.....RSPB Merlin
