Framed size 18" x 12", with non reflective glass. I loved the idea of painting a bird box and this rather old battered one appealed. With the paint peeling off, it needed a fairly colourful subject in the picture, hence my favourite woodland bird, the Nuthatch as he is looking to settle down! I think the contrast in colour sets this painting off perfectly. SOLD.
With its woodpecker-like jizz and exotic plumage the Nuthatch is easy to recognise. It is steely grey-blue above, pinky buff below and has a prominent black eyestripe, white chin and dark, dagger-like bill. Read more.....BTO Nuthatch
The painting is on Cold Press, extra heavy, off white Crescent art board and I aim to produce the finest detail in both the subject and its natural setting. The shade of the Daler mountboard is carefully selected depending on the painting, as is the toning of the frame itself.
